Investigating playful punctuation in children’s narrative and persuasive writing

چکیده

Abstract The writing of 38 9–10-year-old children was used to investigate their use ludic (playful) punctuation in the composition two kinds writing, imaginative narrative and persuasive description. Framed within a consideration language play general, children’s particular, investigation revealed ways which primary children, without being prompted do so, playful order achieve communicative aims. An in-depth analysis made 145 scripts identify categorise by both writing. findings clear differences between how punctuation. study illustrates punctuation, as well an integral part transcriptional aspects text, can contribute its composition; young writers meaning, purpose appropriateness text for intended audience. also suggest that such uses—like whole—warrant further attention educational research. Future work needs tasks enable flourish.
